This is partly as a consequence of people being unsure of how to use it (please note: it's not a fuel additive), and in part because the inlets for diesel and AdBlue are often right next to each other on the automobile.

Well, what is the issue with putting AdBlue in the diesel tank? As AdBlue is predominantly deionised water, it is like putting water in to your tank. Diesel and water really don't blend in any way and attempting to run a diesel car on water cannot work. Furthermore, the urea is fairly corrosive to fuel system lines and seals and is prone to crystalising, clogging injectors and fuel filters.

If you have put AdBlue into a fuel tank remove it at once. And absolutely never turn over the vehicle - not even to relocate it from the pump. In case you did start the vehicle you may in all likelihood have to have the complete fuel system purged and fuel filters replaced.

Fuel contaminated with water

Water contaminated fuel, no matter whether it's unleaded petrol or diesel, is generally a serious issue to address in a vehicle - particularly in modern day common-rail engines. Water in fuel can certainly trigger idling problems, uneven running, increased smoke and, if not taken care of fully, in some cases damaged injectors.
